According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there is a 1.5% to 3% chance that the baby will have a major birth defect with natural pregnancies. There is a similar chance of birth defect with IVF or ICSI generally and maybe slightly higher in certain cases. With the evolution of Advanced Reproductive Genetics a lot of birth defects can be identified even at the embryo stage therefore with IVF and ICSI the couple has a better chance of avoiding birth defects and genetic diseases. ICSI procedure itself is very safe in fact as far as safety is concerned it is the same as the conventional IVF.
