It is a condition of male in which semen contains no sperm and is a male fertility issues.
Genetics has a role of 10% to 15% in men with low or no-sperm count. Azoospermia is usually diagnosed during infertility investigations.
Azoospermia can be broken down into three categories.
- Pre Testicular
- Testicular
- Post Testicular
Pre Testicular
It’s a non-obstructive type. Its characterized stimulation of otherwise normal testicular & genital tract. FSH level are low. Causes Hypopituitarism Hyperprolactinemia Chemotherapy |
Testicular It’s also a non-obstructive type. In this testes are abnormal or absent. FSH levels are Elevated.
Causes Klinefelter Syndrome Sertoli cell Syndrome Orchitis Tumors Varicocele |
Post Testicular It’s an obstructive Azoospermia means sperms are produced not Ejaculated.
Causes Obstruction in Epididymis Vas Deferens Injury Infection Vasectomy

- History
- Physical Examination
- Laboratory tests
- Imaging
Treatment:
Pre testicular & post-testicular Azoospermia are correctable while testicular Azoospermia is permanent.
